If I became a parent today…

2 May

The prompt for this week’s Theme Thursday was “…non-traditional parenting choices. What do you do that’s “unusual”? Do you co-sleep? Do you let your eight-year-old cook dinner? Tell us all about it!”

This made me sad.

I have no children. I have nothing to contribute.

But then I thought, maybe these ladies think they can block me out of their sharing shenanigans, but they are SO WRONG. I will just share what would happen if I became a parent today.

  • If I became a parent today, it would probably make things awkward with my boyfriend. We’ve only been dating 10 months so it would have meant we got pregnant by immaculate conception. I don’t know if he’d be open to helping me raise our miracle baby so I might be searching for a barn to sleep in.
  • If I became a parent today, my  boss might not appreciate my shoving a pack and play into the corner next to my cubicle. Luckily, people are already burning popcorn and cooking fish in the microwave so a few stinky diapers here and there wouldn’t make things any worse for the wear.
  • If I became a parent today, I would finally get the people upstairs back for having loud sex by drowning them out with the sounds of a crying child.
  • If I became a parent today, it would mean I always got a seat on the bus and people would move to get out of my way.
  • If I became a parent today, it would be just in time to have the whole summer off for maternity leave. Perfect timing.
  • If I became a parent today, I bet my mom would stop considering a move to Florida (don’t leave me, Mom!!).
  • If I became a parent today, my trip to Charleston tomorrow would likely have to be cancelled, and that is NOT going to happen.

See y’all when I get back!!

I linked up for Theme Thursday:

Hit me with your best shot

1 May

Conveniently, the first day I no longer am a participant in the A to Z Challenge, also happens to fall on a day many of you have dubbed Wordless Wednesday. I am hopping on that bandwagon and giving my mind a break with a mostly Wordless Wednesday myself.

I love sports and I especially love attending sporting events in person. College football is hands down my favorite (Go Gators!), followed by hockey (Yay Bruins!). My boyfriend has adopted the Gators for my sake and luckily, we both love the Boston Bruins.

One of our first dates was to a Red Sox game, we flew to Florida for a Gator football game, saw the Patriots play the Jets here at home and saw them play the Dolphins in Miami. We have gone to many Providence College basketball and hockey games. It’s his alma mater and so close by we can’t resist cheering them on whenever possible.

As for the Bruins, while both of us have been to many, many games over the years, we had not gone since we started dating.

However, last week we got to attend our first Bruins game together. We had purchased the tickets earlier in the season, but it happened to fall on the day the game was cancelled due to the insane blizzard. I almost forgot we had the tickets by the time the day came around. It was against the Tampa Lightning which is fun for me since I lived there for several years. Tickets were so cheap I would often go to games even when my team wasn’t in town. Bruins tickets are NOT cheap around here, so this was a treat for us!

Even better, the Bruins won- they broke their losing streak with a nice ass kicking for Tampa!

What is your favorite sport to see in person?

(I swear I had mostly wordless intentions).

Thanks to Julie You Jest for another Very Inspiring Blogger Award!

In true me fashion, I signed up for another challenge for May. This one has no real rules- it is my kind of challenge. While I am not a huge cusser myself, I do support the reasoning behind the challenge. Plus, I don’t even have to do it every day! Check out the ABC’s of Swearing

Inspiring Blogger… who me?!

19 Apr

The lovely lady at Things That Happen Everyday has honored me with the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. It sounds so impressive, right?

The rules are as follows:

1. Display award logo on blog.
2. Link back to the person who gave you the award.
3. State 7 things about yourself. Getting to that…
4. Nominate 15 other bloggers for this award and link back to them. Easy enough!

Seven Things About Another Clean Slate

  • I grew up being called Katie, but at some point started going by Kate because it sounded more professional. I can tell what phase of life people know me from or how close they are to me based on what they call me.
  • I still sleep with the teddy bear my dad gave me when I was first born in the hospital. His name is Teddy. Very fitting, I think.
  • I got glasses when I was three years old and was allowed to get contacts when I turned 13. I considered it the best gift ever at the time and don’t understand people who wear fashion glasses by choice now.
  • You all know my first gig was babysitting, but my first real job was working in a fish market that one of the family’s owned. It was a smelly first job.
  • I have a younger sister and a younger brother. We would all do anything for each other, but definitely still have our sibling moments.
  • I played soccer as a kid, but eventually I quit because the coach required me to take out my earrings. I obviously loved the sport.
  • My mom is one of my best friends. There are many times I would have been completely lost without her- and not in the “I’m just saying this to be nice” way, but in the totally serious way.

And the nominees are…

I know the bigger blogs don’t usually participate in these types of things and some of my  fave new blogging friends belong to those, so please feel free to snatch this award for yourself if you want- you know who you are!

ALSO, if you haven’t heard the news, two of my blogging mentors My Life as Lucille and Something Clever 2.0 convinced me I need a Facebook page, so go check it out 🙂 (Update: I’ve hidden this page for now- still trying to figure it all out!).

And thank you for the two new Liebsters I received from Reflex Reflections and Just Another Blog. Make sure you check these great blogs out! Also check out my other Liebster Award mentions (see 1-2 here , 3-6 here and 7 here). Appears I have a lot of catching up to do responding to these awards.
