After an exploratory Day One and a wedding-filled Day Two, waking up Sunday morning was sad because it meant our weekend away was coming to a close. My boyfriend was still not feeling well, so I headed out on my own to enjoy some final hours in Charleston.
I had wanted to try a spot called High Cotton so I braved some rain and walked on over. It is funny how more than once people told me someplace was too far to walk and it turned out to be only 20 minutes. One perk to being a city girl!
I am so glad I decided to go despite being on my own. I sat at the bar, chatted with some other folks and enjoyed a Bloody Mary while a live jazz band played to the crowd. I started off with maple bacon doughnut holes and yes, they were as delicious as they sound. I waited for a bit because I couldn’t pick what to have next- too many incredible options! I ended up ordering a crab, goat cheese and asparagus omelet which came with a side of grits. I made the right decision! Long brunches are seriously one of my favorite things and this one only supported that statement.
By the time I finished my brunch, the rain had subsided and I ventured back out into the city. I walked through the City Market on my way back to the hotel. This is a long stretch of stands selling homemade crafts and local goods. It was fun to see even though I didn’t purchase anything.
Back to the hotel and then travelled back to reality. These trips are never long enough!
Would you go and explore or eat by yourself?
I would love to be able to explore by myself a bit, because I don’t think I get to do that often enough with my gang. Sounded like a wonderful trip and that omelette definitely sounded yummy, too!! 🙂
Reading about your brunch made me hungry! It’s a good thing you’re not one of those girls who can’t survive when they don’t have anyone to go with. I myself am Miss Independent. I often eat and explore by myself.
Have heard nothing but good things about High Cotton, so am excited to read this, so the next time I am in Charleston I am checking it out for sure!-Ashley
You have definitely got to try High Cotton. I was blown away!
Sounds like you had just the best time in Charleston.

loved the food report on this one…..!!!!!!! Mema
I probably shouldn’t have read this after I ate my pathetic little frozen pizza for lunch. Now I feel sorry for myself. 🙂 I definitely want to visit Charleston someday.
That omelet sounds like heaven. I never think to add different things unless I see it on a menu! I go to movies by myself but haven’t gotten up the courage to dine by myself…even at a bar. It’d be a good challenge for me! You’re right, trips and weekends are never long enough!
I’ve always wanted to visit Charleston. You make it sound delicious!
There are some places I have no problem going by myself. I spent a weekend in Philly by myself and had a fantastic time. Since I like to wander and spend time just sitting in museums, it works out better if I am alone.
P.S. I was drooling over your omelette. I hope you don’t mind.
I wish I didn’t know about that mouth watering omelette! So good that you decided to explore on your own. I remember in my student days, I used to LOVE to go to catch a movie all by myself, there was something so unexpectedly great about that.
I would do both since being alone is like a wonderful adventure…and that omelet is making me ravenous!
Kate,
Yes I would. I am usually doing stuff by myself, even if it would be nice to have some company that you know along.

I’d definitely go exploring by myself. Especially if I was traveling with someone who was sick or couldn’t go with me for whatever reason. My husband would absolutely tell me to go ahead if he physically couldn’t. I love alone time! Good for you. Congrats on all the awards you are getting. Blogging is in your blood!
I’m your newest follower on Bloglovin from the NTMY Blog Hop! Great blog and I’m also a huge fan of Charleston!
Come and visit when you have a chance!

I would totally explore by myself. I have a thing about eating on my own but shopping, sightseeing and even drinking – totally! Sounds like you had fun! 🙂
Absolutely! I would go out and explore by myself! Especially when you’re in the city and can just walk! (I’m challenged as far as directions go…thank goodness for GPS!) That omelet sounded amazing…I am such a food person! It drives my husband nuts because I can’t eat just to eat, it has to be good stuff! 🙂
