This is the story of how I met my best friend.
It was freshman orientation. The year was 1997 and the style was, well, pathetic. My mom and I showed up to the school and took the tour, met some teachers and then mingled. She was with her mom, too. She told me she had not gone to the public middle school like the majority of new freshman and knew almost no one.
“I’ll be your friend,” I said in typical me fashion.
“Okay,” she replied.
On the way home she told her mom about our conversation.
“I’d be careful with anyone that eager to make friends,” her mom said.
We’ve been best friends ever since. I’m just friendly, not desperate. Geez.
We have not lived in the same state since high school. We both went to out of state colleges and moved after graduation. However, our friendship has remained consistent. We have a history together that distance doesn’t shake. Even when I lived in Florida and she lived in New York, we saw each other more than I saw some people who only lived 20 minutes away. We’ve been lucky, but we don’t take the friendship or our history for granted.
How did you meet your best friend?
Today was Day Eight (or Day H) of the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge.
I am also linking up with Inspired Tuesdays and the Nice to Meet You Blog Hop.
Hoping you’ll follow me on Bloglovin or Twitter! New friends make me happy…obviously!
I met my BFF in 7th grade science class. I recently wrote about her during a 5minute friday: http://undiagnosedbutokay.blogspot.com/2013/03/five-minute-friday-remember.html
I love learning about your friendship. It sounds so similar to my own 🙂
We are lucky! I’m going to go read your post 🙂
That’s such a sweet story! One of my best friends I met in 7th grade, and although I moved in high school, we still ended up rooming together for 3 years of college and we are still very close, after 30+ years. We live on opposite sides of the country, but I am visiting her this summer! Yay!
It is so good to know you always can count on someone! Yay for your visit this summer!
How sweet!
So excited that you are joining in for the green smoothie challenge! Be sure to tell all your friends and family. :p

Such a sweet story! The friends that you can pick up right where you left off, even if you haven’t seen each other in months, are the best kind.
So true!!
I don’t keep in touch with anyone from high school – how great to have a BFF that you have known for so long! I don’t think I could pick a best friend, but I have a handful of close girlfriends.
Btw – you’re doing great on this A to Z challenge – I’m impressed by your stamina to write a post every day!
Ha! I am running out of ideas… not even halfway through yet!
How funny! I posted about my best friend today, too! Feel free to come over and read the story.
Great minds! I will check it out now 🙂
I actually met my BFF on the internet. When I learned we were both relocating to the same area (Phoenix, AZ), I asked her, “Will you be my real-life friend?”
Thank goodness she said, “Yes!”
Circle yes, no or maybe?
pretty much Ha!
I love this story. Old friends are the best. I met my best friend in middle school. We sat the same desk in different classes and left each other notes. It was 7th grade and we are still best friends – even though we are very different!

I miss passing notes!
My two best friends I’ve only know for 10 years. I’m so different now than I was in school, that I could never relate the current “me” to the old me or my old friends. I know, I’m weird.
I definitely know what you mean- this has happened with other people, but luckily my best friend and I seem to have grown and changed together.
Awww. I love best friendship. I met my best friend at a party and we’ve been besties ever since. It was on Christmas Eve.
Sounds like a great Christmas gift to me 🙂
wow – i’d be skeptical of any mom who would say that.. what the hey!?
I didn’t find this out til much later 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! 🙂 Just followed you! Would love to have you follow me at http://www.bloglovin.com/lbinwonderland
I love your blog! 🙂
how sweet! I love stories like this. I met my best friend in kindergarten and we’re still close -even worked together for a while.
Kindergarten?! You win!
Nice post – I did laugh when I read about what your friend’s mum said – typical protective mother comment! I think one of the things that confirms you are very close friends with someone is that even when you spend long periods of time apart, when you eventually meet again it’s like only a few minutes have passed. Keep up the good work on the challenge – good luck!
Thanks Wayne 🙂
My bestie and I met as juniors in high school in 1996! We run a blog from our homes in Tampa and Annapolis and have never been closer! : ) Love hearing bestie stories!
I love your blog and think your friendship is partly why!
What a lovely story, but strange what the mum said though. I have lots of friends, but would say my husband is my BFF.
He is a lucky guy!
Funny you should ask. I just took my BFF–not the only one–but she certainly is the one who is like a sister to me. We’ve been through a lot together. Nothing like girlfriends, is there?
Definitely not!
How lovely that you two found each other! Not everyone has that luck.
We are definitely lucky 🙂
Friends are what make life so special… they are precious so treat them kindly.
Enjoy the Challenge…. 1/2 way there!!
Thanks!
My best friend lived in a nearby apartment, and I often saw her sketching with charcoal on the front lawn and sipping tea. We were both young, penniless, and artsy. She invited me to share a plate of enchiladas at a nearby restaurant (notice the share a plate reference). Our friendship was sealed over two enchiladas and some rice and beans. I talk to her often.
What a great story! Sharing a plate will definitely bring you together 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my site!
I met my best friend when she moved in next door to me. I was eight and she was four, and we’re still best friends. Hell, I taught her to read . . . And talked her through boys . . . So she’s family as much as a friend!
She owes you big time- haha
Thanks for visiting Buttercup’s. I don’t have a best friend, but I’ve got a few great friends. Two from college, one from high school and one from the fifth grade. Love them all!
Great friends are SO important!
I love how eager you were to be friends. I was the same way freshman year of high school with my friend Kim. We shared a mutual friend and when she introduced us I was all, “We should eat lunch together!”
The story of meeting my best friend (Katie at Words for Worms who was using a pseudonym on my blog briefly) is here: http://www.quirkychrissy.com/2012/06/26/bradley-university-me/
Am going to check it out now- thanks!
Good post. It is hard to find someone that you can stay good close friends with no matter the distance. I can relate too because my best friend is in Hawaii and I’m in California. We met during soccer. He shaved my head as a hazing ritual. Been best friends ever since.

We Are Adventure
Oh wow, that is one way to bond!
Awwwwww! That’s really cute, I love that you’re still best friends even now. 🙂 My high school best friends and I aren’t that close anymore – ‘s really sad.
You can always try and reconnect- sometimes people just grow apart though 😦 Thanks for stopping by!
That’s a very cool post. I think it’s rare but incredible that you guys have been able to remain so close despite all of the obstacles. You must have a bond that will never be broken.
Thanks,
Dan Miller
I certainly hope so! Thanks 🙂
I have bestfriend from high school, but since we married we are not as close as before anymore. Maybe we are busy with our own family. Now my husband is my BFF. Glad you posted this.

He is a lucky guy and I am sure your high school best friend would still be there if you needed her!
Its really sweet that you guys are best friends even now 🙂
Here’s to best friends… 🙂 🙂
Bhavya from the AtoZ Challenge blogging at Just Another Blog
Cheers to that!
i really like your blog!
Thank you!!
What a great story. I met my BFF on our first afternoon at university – we haven’t seen each other in so long since she is now living in New Zealand, and I miss her just about every day.

Wow- you definitely have much further to travel to see one another. Thank goodness for technology- love Skype!
What a nice story – so glad you remained friends 🙂 I met my best friend when we were both sixteen, working very glamorous jobs at the local mall (a toy store!).
So fun! There are too few toy stores in mall now 😦
I know, it’s so odd to me. There’s literally only a Toys R Us near me and even that is a 30 minute drive. I feel a “back in my day…” story coming on. lol
Yes!!! I am sure you have some funny stories from working in a toy store.
What a lovely choice for your A to Z post. Such a nice story of 2 best friends. Thanks for stopping by blog to yesterday, The Tales of Me.
Kate
awwww thanks for the shout out BFF!! I love you! 🙂
xoxoxo
Great friends are a treasure! I have a couple girlfriends that I met in middle school, over 20 years ago. Geesh, I’m old. We’ve
Long time friendships are the best!
The two girls I would say are my closets friends I met when I was older..like college. I could come up with a million and one excuses, but I don’t think I’v ever had a best friend since my sister pretty much filled that role for so long since we moved all the time.
That is great that your sister is your best friend. You guys are lucky! My sister is pretty awesome too 🙂
It is great that you have been able to remain so close even though you are not so ‘close’!
