Birthday blues

I think yesterday was a big April Fool’s Day joke on me. Either that or my post from yesterday was an April Fool’s Joke on you. Either way, something is off. Content/cement.

I wrote yesterday about being content and happy. Let me tell you, that was certainly tested in a roller coaster of feelings kind of birthday. But nobody wants to hear about the lows, here are the highs!

  • High- Woke up to a phone loaded down with texts, Facebook posts and comments wishing me a Happy Birthday
  • High- Received an amazing bouquet at work from my BFF in NYC
  • High- My friends dropped off tulips to my office
  • High- Took it upon myself to salvage the day and told everyone I was flying solo the remainder
  • High- Got a manicure and pedicure and am now rocking a hot pink nail color
  • High- Went to the movies and saw The Host- realized at least my body is not being taken by an alien
  • High- Got home and talked to my best friend
  • High- Got to catch up on all the awesome comments you left me!

I’m calling a do-over on the shenanigans this birthday began. In honor of my blog, it is being wiped clean and today is another clean slate.

Be gentle to me today- I am fragile.

Tell me a joke or funny story in the comments to make me smile. Pretty, please??

Today was Day Two (or Day B) of the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge

Hoping you’ll follow me on Bloglovin or Twitter! New friends make me happy!

I hope that you had a really fantastic birthday! I love that you’re showing off the highs and not the lows…I think that rocks. Also–I TOTALLY love tulips. They’re like one of the best spring flowers 🙂

    • Another Clean Slate April 2, 2013 at 8:43 am #

Aren’t they?! These same lovely ladies gave me tulips last year too 🙂 Love them!

Gorgeous flowers! Loved all the good parts of your birthday…sorry for the less than desirable parts! Stopping by from SITS. 🙂

Birthday do-overs are the best. Have a blessed day!

  4. Ellie April 2, 2013 at 9:37 am #

Beautiful flowers! Good idea to focus on the positives, there’s no use dwelling on the negative.

I’m not really good with jokes but here’s one anyway…

A duck and a chicken were at the side of the road. The duck was about to cross when the chicken said “Dont do it mate, you’ll never hear the end of it”

Hey, you didn’t ask for a GOOD joke. 🙂

  5. Ghadeer April 2, 2013 at 9:45 am #

    Aww, that’s life- happysad!

  6. Ida Chiavaro April 2, 2013 at 10:01 am #

What do you call a blind dinosaur? – I dont think he saurus – hope that pot a smile on your laughing gear. Seriously – happy birthday, a good mani/pedi is enough to put me in a good mood for weeks 🙂

  7. stephgregerson April 2, 2013 at 10:45 am #

You do use my method and just celebrate the whole month – it takes the pressure off of that one day.

  8. Elliot B. April 2, 2013 at 10:47 am #

Aww…well thats why my friends and I like to celebrate birthday weeks… less likelihood of having a bad birthday. Keep your chin up buttercup. It can only get better. Now for some jokes… hopefully they help.

Two fish were in a tank. One tells the other one “You drive. I’ll man the guns”

What did the fish say when he swam into a wall? “Dam”

Two cupcakes were sitting in an oven. One says” Is it me or is it getting hot in here?” The other says “Holy cow, a talking cupcake!”.

Birthdays have a weird way of messing with your head and your emotions- I have a slightly bigger birthday this year and am worried it’s going to send me into a spiral. Glad you found a way to enjoy the highs along with the inevitable lows!

    • Another Clean Slate April 2, 2013 at 11:03 am #

I have decided the key is to have no expectations. Try that for your big day!

  10. Kianwi April 2, 2013 at 11:49 am #

Oh, birthdays. I have a love/hate relationship with mine! I think my dog has a better time on his, getting to eat his doggy.cupcakes with his doggy friends. I tortured my friend on his birthday last year, by bringing him over, along with treats for the dogs and a birthday crown for him. I kept talking about how it was a doggy birthday party and all her.neighbors could hear. Man that was fun!

    • Kianwi April 2, 2013 at 11:50 am #

Shoot, I hit send before I could say happy do over birthday!!

    • Another Clean Slate April 2, 2013 at 11:58 am #

      Spoiled pup 🙂 Thanks!!!

  11. Dana April 2, 2013 at 12:13 pm #

    Tulips are my favorite flowers!

Wishing you a better day today. ☺

Happy birthday! Funny story: my friend got a text from another friend that Ryan gosling (who is in town filming a movie) was at a certain hotel. My friend ran there only to find a picture of Ryan with the words April fools 🙂

  13. Lauren {at} Life.Love.Lauren April 2, 2013 at 12:21 pm #

That sounds like an excellent birthday!

  14. dee April 2, 2013 at 2:25 pm #

Sorry I can’t think of any jokes at the moment. >.<
I hope the others have cheered you up though.
I wonder if the blues are related to you turning 30? Coz I turned 30 myself last September and I was really depressed about it for a while.

    • Another Clean Slate April 2, 2013 at 2:38 pm #

Hmm… how long did it take before you kicked it?

      • dee April 2, 2013 at 10:53 pm #

A few months, I suppose. Lots of my friends went through the same thing when they turned 30 as well, but we all eventually accepted that as a fact of life and we’re okay now. One thing that helped me was the realization that lots of well known people only accomplished much in their thirties.

  15. mcrohio April 2, 2013 at 3:34 pm #

Wow! you get lots of comments. I’m glad I stopped by on my A to Z visits. I never met an “April Fool” before. See you around –

  16. ewgibson April 2, 2013 at 3:44 pm #

Happy belated birthday! Birthdays can be a bugaboo or a blessing. Bet you didn’t think you could have both. 🙂

  17. bridget whelan April 2, 2013 at 4:05 pm #

Happy Birthday joke….what do you call a dinosaur with an excellence vocabulary? A thesaurus. what do you call a dinosaur with an excellence vocabulary and a passion for Wuthering Heights? A brontosaurus.

Remember that getting older is better than the alternative….

And can you tell a London Irish writer living on the English south coast what a BFF is. Best Friend’s friend…..? No, that doesn’t work. Help!

  18. Poke The Rock April 2, 2013 at 4:20 pm #

Happy birthday!!!! Sounds like a good day

uh I don’t know good jokes…ok here it goes:
What do skinny jeans and cheap hotels have in common?
    …..

    No Ball room.

    Ahem, I’ll see myself out.

  19. Sarah Chafin (@SarahChafin) April 2, 2013 at 4:23 pm #

Wow – you’ve raked in the followers for only blogging for a month. Did you transfer your blog from another platform or are just wildly successful at blog hops?

    Popped in from AtoZ challenge.

What do you call a man with two left feet?

WHATEVER YOU WANT! If he tries to catch you, he’ll just run around in a circle…

  24. KT Did April 2, 2013 at 5:19 pm #

Happy Late Birthday! My whole blog got wiped out, twice, and never came back… 5 years of it gone and I still go on. Glad to see you didn’t give up. I like the highs and no lows!

    • Another Clean Slate April 2, 2013 at 5:20 pm #

Luckily my blog wasn’t wiped out- just a metaphor! Thanks for the birthday wishes!

  25. Me April 2, 2013 at 5:27 pm #

Because there wasn’t mushroom for them!”

Visitor from the A-Z Challenge! 🙂

  30. Gossip Grl April 2, 2013 at 6:05 pm #

I have given up celebrating them, but Happy Birthday. 🙂

  31. Mary April 2, 2013 at 6:09 pm #

Happy Belated Birthday! Why is it that I can always (well, almost!) think of a funny story…until someone asks me to tell one???

  32. sandy April 2, 2013 at 6:14 pm #

Sounds like an awesome birthday. Flower, manicures, pedicures..NICE. I generally don’t celebrate my birthday, just not my thing..people tell me I’m odd. Charleston is a great place to visit, hope you’ll have some time to tour while you’re there. Thanks for the visit on Traveling Suitcase…if you need any info on Charleston you could plug it into the search at the top of the blog. Leaving you a link for a 2nd blog I’ve entered in the A-Z

  33. T. A. Demings April 2, 2013 at 6:15 pm #

Either I’m a sadist or I was really hoping that your lows would give me better perspective, but I was hoping to hear some of the lows…

Thanks for visiting my blog. I thought I’d come take a peek at yours as well.
And here’s to more peaks on your roller coaster of life. 😉

Happy belated birthday! The only jokes I know these days are the ones that entertain 7 year old boys – ie, jokes with fart in them. Sigh.

  36. Beauty&TheBooks (@BeautyNthaBook) April 2, 2013 at 6:48 pm #

Happy Birthday! or should I say belated birthday? Great flowers 😉

What do you call a blind fish? A blind fish. Hope that lame joke made you smile

  37. Crafty Spices April 2, 2013 at 7:36 pm #

Happy for your Highs… No 2 B-days are the same, I use to cry almost every B-day, this year it was just another day and I invited people to come over and eat with us (My B-day was not mentioned)… 🙂 And I just started following you, hope to see you around.

    • Another Clean Slate April 2, 2013 at 8:18 pm #

I think you discovered the secret to birthday success,,, just making it just another day with no expectations!

  38. settoncrew April 3, 2013 at 1:41 am #

Happy Belated Birthday. I love that you are able to set aside the low’s and highlight the highs 🙂

I am going to watch Host on Thursday for Girls Night Out.

    Stopping by from AtoZ

    • Another Clean Slate April 3, 2013 at 9:29 am #

It is a good movie for a girls night out- although I wouldn’t make a date go!

  39. Dani & Jax April 4, 2013 at 6:20 am #

    Happy belated B-day!
Sounds like you had a good day and hopefully by the end of the day you highs outweighed your lows.

    My favourite joke is…
Why did the chicken cross the road and cross back again?
Because his braces were caught in the lamp post 🙂
