Another Clean Slate

14 Mar

At age seven, I emulated my babysitters. I thought they were so cool. I wanted to scrunch my socks and crimp my hair just like they did. And I thought they were SO old. They could DRIVE. They had BOYFRIENDS. And they were allowed to watch Saturday Night Live without having to sneak downstairs after everyone else had gone to bed.

Now, I’m basically 30. I can drive, though I rarely do and it’s mostly when I need to stock up on a case of water (or wine). I have a boyfriend, although sometimes he thinks my taste in TV is equal to a that of a seven year old. And I often am asleep before Saturday Night Live even comes on. Yet, I don’t think I’m old at all. My seven year old self had no idea.

I’m not dreading the idea of turning 30. I did think I would have accomplished a lot more by now, but when it comes down to it, I count my family and friends and the relationships I have with them as my biggest successes. Who needs an office when you have a friend to gchat with about your every thought throughout the day, right? I know I still have time to do something “special” with my life. Don’t ask me what that something could be, but I know there is time.

I’m certainly having fun figuring it all out. What do you consider success?
